Most people agree that the RV lifestyle is addicting. RVers love taking to the road for a weekend, staying in different campgrounds around the state of Connecticut, and connecting with nature. The downside? Leaving your beloved pets behind every time you travel! However, our team at Unlimited RV wants you to know that, although pets have specific needs and can make traveling a little more difficult, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it! Pets are adaptable, so if you take the time to get them used to riding in a vehicle, using a leash, and spending time outside, there’s no reason for you to leave them behind again! Read on for a few safety tips we’ve put together to give you a smoother trip with your pets.

1. Use Restraints
Even if you are an experienced RV driver, accidents can happen to anyone, and your pet could be seriously injured if they are not properly restrained. Our team recommends properly buckling up every time you travel in your RV rental.2. Be Prepared
By this point, you’ve got packing your RV down to a science, but adding your pet to the mix means adding several items they’ll need to feel safe and comfortable. Make a list before your trip so you don’t forget any of the essentials. Here’s one to help get you started:
- Food/Water (plus bowls)
- Leash
- Waste pick-up bags
- Litter (for cats)
- Toys
- Brush
- Crate
- Comfort items or bedding
3. Keep Proper IDs Handy
Even the best-trained pets can get away from time to time. Be sure that your pet has up-to-date tags with your name and phone number. Microchipping your pet is also a great way to track them down if they get lost.4. Keep Records Handy
Often, we’ve found that campgrounds will ask to see vaccination records before allowing you to bring pets onto the site. So, before you travel with your pet, be sure they are up-to-date on their shots and the records are easy to access. You should also bring proof of ownership in case your pet gets away and someone else tries to claim him. Finally, if your pet has any medical ailments or allergies, you should bring all relevant paperwork.
